Kindergarten students are getting a taste of United States history as they explore the lyrics and melody of our national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner. Students have also been exploring concepts of echo versus call and response, as well as engaging in activities that develop rhythm skills. The song list for the spring includes Grand Old Flag, The Green Grass Grew All Around, and other classics.
We will also begin to prepare for the Kindergarten Moving Up Ceremony, which takes place in June. So many exciting things are happening!!!
1st and 2nd graders have been listening, looking, exploring, and creating, as they engage in a unit of study about musical instruments.
By looking at what different musical instruments have in common, students develop the concept of instrument families.
Grades 3-5 have been learning about the parts of the acoustic guitar, how to care for an instrument like the guitar, and how to tune a guitar using an electronic tuner. We will soon be learning to play using Little Kids Rock methodology. Students will develop concepts of chords, note names, strumming patterns, and apply what they have learned in previous units of study. Ask your student to name the guitar strings for you... (HINT: Elephants And Donkeys Grow Big Ears!)
